Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
With Grandma in town to watch the little one, Logan and I hopped on a flight to Park City, Utah for a little ski getaway in honor of our 7 year anniversary. We both love to ski and went skiing on our honeymoon, so what better way to spend our anniversary?
We stayed at a nice ski-in/ski-out resort which is awesome if you plan on doing a lot of skiing. The lift was right outside our room!
Unbeknownst to us, the Sundance Film Festival was going on during the week we were there. So our first night in town, we headed to Main St. to check out what all the fuss was about.
It was super crowded and there were some very interesting people there (the good thing about it being crowded downtown was that it meant the slopes weren’t crowded!). We checked to see what movies were playing, but the lines to get tickets were crazy long, so we just decided to enjoy a few drinks and head back to our warm room!
Here’s a board of what was playing. I didn’t see anything that fit my “romantic comedy” taste.
I did however, learn of the famous Banksy. There were a ton of people gathered around this painting on the side of the wall taking pictures of it. Me, being the curious person that I am, had to stop and find out what was so awesome about this painting. I asked a lady who informed me that Banksy is a graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter. He goes all around the world painting on streets, walls, and bridges, but no one knows his true identity. His paintings have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars! Most paintings, like this one in Park City, have to be covered up so that vandals don’t steal or deface the artwork. I feel pretty special now, knowing that I’ve gotten to see one of his paintings.
The next day, we were fitted for our ski gear, helmets and all. Apparently, they are really pushing for people to wear helmets now while skiing and snowboarding because of all the skull and brain injuries. And since Logan and I are both accident prone, we decided it would probably be the smart decision!
After some breakfast and poking holes in Logan’s leather belt so that my ski pants wouldn’t fall off (apparently my pants have grown?), we headed out to the slopes! (Please remind me to buy new pants before we go skiing again.)
We had great weather both days. The only thing missing was some fresh snow!
We ate lunch one day on top of the mountain at a cute restaurant called, Cloud Dine. Look at the awesome views!
Logan and I managed to survive without any broken bones (I think being parents may have slowed us down a bit), even though we ended up on some runs that should have been blacks!
On the night of our anniversary, we enjoyed a nice jacuzzi bubble bath (with a few extra bubbles thanks to mine truly) before heading out to dinner.
I’m getting close to running out of fingers for our yearly anniversary count. Logan is going to have to start providing some digits!
Swanky anniversary dinner!
On our third day in Park City, we decided to head over to the Olympic Park. We both had forgotten that the Olympics were held here in 2002, so it was exciting getting to see the big sign as we drove in.
Look at that ramp!! See the frozen pool down below? Skiers are able to practice here (when it’s warmer) before they do their stunts on solid ground.
We were slightly disappointed to have learned that we could have gone on a bobsled ride!! If we ever come back, we will definitely be doing that! There are also zip-lines and other fun summer activities for the whole family.
Inside, there’s a museum that holds past awards, history, ski simulators, and plenty of photos from the Olympic games.
They even had costumes and props that were worn at the opening ceremony in 2002, as well as past and present outfits that the Olympians wore and will be wearing this year in Sochi.
Sad that we didn’t get to ride in a real bobsled, so we settled for a picture in one.
After a wonderful 4 days away, we were ready to be home and see our son. We are blessed to have been able to spend this time together and celebrate 7 years of marriage.
Thanks for a wonderful anniversary trip babe, can’t wait to see what 2014 brings!

Happy Anniversary! Looks like a wonderful trip. We went to Squaw Valley a few years back and had so much fun there!
Thank you, Kourtney! It was great to get away for a few days. We have never skied in Squaw Valley, looks nice though!
