Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
Four days after we moved into our new home in Virginia, it snowed. Not just a little snow, a LOT of snow. The blizzard of 2016 brought 25 inches of snow to be exact! Neither Logan nor I are used to that much snow. The great thing about it though was that neither one of us had to work or be anywhere! Snow is always so much prettier when you don’t HAVE to go out in it. And what better time to be holed up in your house then after just moving in? We had plenty of time to unpack.
The first day of the blizzard, Easton was so excited to go out and play that we threw our ski clothes on and ran outside. Snow was still coming down like crazy and the wind was pretty rough on our faces. Poor Amelia. After one sledding attempt with me, her little face was covered with snow. Needless to say, we didn’t stay out too long that first day.
It snowed all night long (which we were reminded of every few hours when we’d hear the snow plows come through the neighborhood), but by the next morning it had stopped. The sun was out and shining and the wind had died down. There was nothing else to do but go out and enjoy the 25″ of freshly fallen snow. I was able to snap a few pictures of how pretty it was on my morning walk with Semper.
Then, after breakfast, we took one excited little boy out to go sledding for the first time.
It is safe to say, without a shadow of a doubt, that Easton thoroughly enjoyed sledding. Even when he’d end up with a face full of snow, he had a smile on his face. The boys spent several hours outside playing, making snow angels, and sledding down different hills in the neighborhood.
Logan burned a few extra calories that day too.
Even Amelia got to go down a few hills and get pulled in the sled.
My little snow bunny! 🙂
The day ended after Easton sledded into a drainage ditch and got his legs soaking wet. But fear not, after a good lunch and a long nap, he was ready to go again!
Our boogie board proved to be a great sled as well. Can you tell we’re not from around here??
After the kids went to sleep each night, Logan and I contemplated taking turns going outside to sled down the bigger hills. Even though it didn’t happen, I hope we’ll always be this young at heart!
It took a good week for the snow to melt away. That’s definitely my least favorite part of a good snowfall-having everything a soggy mess for a while. I understand where the word “mudroom” originated from now. Easton would still wake up everyday and ask if he could go sledding. It wasn’t long before his wish came true. Just this past Monday we got a good 6 inches or so. It’s such a nice change from California. I’m really enjoying experiencing the seasons again, especially with kids.
According to Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, we should be getting an early Spring. But I think we’d all be ok for a few more snow days. At least for these former Californians… 🙂
