Logan’s Promotion To Gunnery Sergeant

On September 1st, Logan was officially promoted to Gunnery Sergeant! It’s been almost five years since I pinned him to Staff Sergeant and I was so proud to be able to pin him again, along with our son, Easton! He chose to have his promotion done at the Marine Corps museum here in Quantico and I was lucky enough to find a fellow Marine wife to photograph the event. Not even two weeks after his promotion ceremony, we were notified that Logan had been selected to become a warrant officer! To say I was proud would be an understatement. The selection rate in his job field is only 10%! I feel so incredibly blessed for this great opportunity in Logan’s career and can’t say enough about his strong work ethic that has gotten him this far.
What is a warrant officer you ask? A US Marine warrant officer will typically fulfill duties that would normally call for the authority of a commissioned officer. However, they require an additional level of technical proficiency and practical experience that a commissioned officer would not have had the opportunity to achieve.
So what does this mean for our family in the future? Logan will become an aircraft maintenance engineer officer and will be promoted on February 1st, 2017. First up is the warrant officer basic course which is 16 weeks long and will start the week before he gets promoted. Luckily, the school is right here in Quantico though! Two thumbs up for that! He will most likely stay at the school during the week so that he can concentrate and not have any distractions and then come home on the weekends. We should find out where our next duty station will be sometime during the course as well.
After completion of the basic course, he will will go to Pensacola, FL for the aircraft maintenance officer school which is approximately 25 days. After that, it’s home to pack up our things and head off to our new duty station! I won’t lie and say that I’m not a little hesitant about what changes and hurdles lie ahead for our family, but I know that we’ll be fine and that we will always be taken care of. God has a plan and I’m excited to see where it leads us.
