Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
Halloween 2015 was quite the howling one. Much to everyone’s dismay, the howling was not coming from my 2 month old, but my 3 year old.
The day started off with Easton and I getting our pumpkins ready to carve for when daddy arrived home. Once daddy got home it was nap time for the boys. Easton got out of bed about an hour after he laid down because he had to go to the bathroom. I was busy with Amelia during that hour so I didn’t check on him to make sure he was napping. Lately, he’s been reading books in his bed until I tell him no more. I’m pretty confident now that he was indeed, not napping.
Once Logan woke up we carved our pumpkins and started getting ready to go out trick-or-treating. It was then that Easton informed us he did not want to be a pirate. Say what? The boy who is obsessed with all things pirate and who just had a pirate birthday party does not want to be a pirate?? Fun times. And on top of that, I couldn’t find his candy bucket. Ugh.
Once the outfit was finally on and “all makeup was wiped off his face”, I took him outside to get a few pictures. This is what proceeded…
Seeing that my disgruntled pirate was not giving me any frame worthy photos, I asked him if he wanted Semper to be in the pictures with him. He said yes, and Semper joined the photos to save the day.
Semper for the win!
The finger is his “hook” that he holds up while saying, “arrrgh”. There was a sword but that got broken the day before.
Thank you, Semper, for your cooperation and making our Halloween photos a success! You will be getting an extra belly rub later.
We then hopped in the car to go grab another candy bucket on our way over to our friends house. It was then that Easton said, “I’m hungry”. What’s that? You mean you want to eat dinner tonight?? Logan and I just stared at each other. Major parent fail. I ran into the house and grabbed some goldfish and applesauce. I have no idea what I was thinking.
When we got to our friends house one of the kids was dressed up as a scary ape and Easton made it very clear that he did not like him. While approaching a house for candy Easton burst into tears when the lady showed up to give them candy. Ay yi yi. I informed my friend that we would be walking ahead of the group to put some distance from Easton and the ape.
The neighborhood that we went to was the same we trick-or-treated at last year. It is a hopping street! One house even had a haunted house you could walk through. I think it was all just a little too much for Easton and after only hitting up a few houses, we made our way back to our car. We did stop by a few houses on the way back that were way less crowded and Easton did fine at those. I think he is definitely going through a “scared of everything” phase right now. And maybe the fact that he didn’t get dinner could have contributed…. maybe. Amelia on the other hand was a dream and slept the entire evening in her sling!
We grabbed some dinner at Chick-fil-a on the way home and put Easton to bed shortly after. Nothing makes for a tired little boy like skipping your nap and a full belly! I have big plans next year to be a little more on top of my trick-or-treating game so that everyone has an enjoyable time. And hopefully Easton will be out of his scared phase by then. I hope everyone else had a delightful evening! Oh, and I’m happy to report that the old candy bucket was found today. 🙂

Oh goodness, you had me laughing at the ape boy. Mitchell isn’t quite as enthusiastic when it comes to “scary” things either, and then he decides to make me carry him and I’m loaded down with a kid in each arm. He looks so adorable in that pirate costume, though! Can’t wait to here where you’re PCS’ing! Hurry up with that post 🙂

I’m guessing it’s just a phase. Two kids are quite difficult to carry now a days though! Props to you!!
Your Halloween sounded like quite an adventure! He ended up being such a handsome little pirate. Reminds me a little of our first trick-or-treating experience. We took Olivia out for the first time, made it to a few houses, before heading home to hand out candy. We didn’t anticipate her being so frightened by some of the costumes….her new favorite phrase is now, “oh no, scary mommy!” (She says this while pointing to just about anything she doesn’t like) Wish we were closer!
I know! They could have been scared together riding in a wagon!
