Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
I pinned these adorable DIY peg doll bats from We Bloom Here to my Pinterest board over 4 years ago! It wasn’t until last year when I purchased this amazing wooden Christmas tree from Welcome to the Wood Shop (and decided it was too cute to take down) that I knew I had the perfect place to hang them if I made them!
I followed her instructions for the most part, only changing a few things here and there. Here’s what you’ll need:
Supplies
I started by painting the bodies of the bats, leaving the heads for last. I did two coats on each one. I used the paint marker to draw out the shape of the face as well as the eyes and mouth, and then filled the back of the heads in with the foam brush. If you are extra talented and can do this by hand, go for it!
After a coat of spray paint, I began drilling the holes in the bottom of the peg dolls to attach the legs. In the original crafters instructions, she just glued them to the back of the bat. I’ll admit that drilling the holes is an extra step, but I felt it looked way better this way. Up to you!
I then cut strips of wire for the legs, ran some super glue over them, and placed them in the pre-drilled holes. While they dried, I started the tedious process of cutting out the wings and the ears. I cut a few of the wings larger than the others so that I could wrap them around the bat peg doll as if they were sleeping.
I then attached the wings and ears with some craft glue and used a dab of hot glue on the sleeping ones to secure their wings in place around them. After they dried, it was time to hang them up on my wooden tree! All I had to do was wrap the wire legs around the wooden dowels. If you don’t have a wooden tree at home, a branch works just as well!
I’m loving the cute little fangs I was able to add to a few!
My husband said it was missing something, which I agreed. So I added in some spider webbing around the tree. I’m loving the final look!
Thanks for hanging around! This DIY craft project may drive you a little batty, but the end result is simply boo-tiful!😉
Happy crafting!
