While we were still living in California, I decided to update Easton’s nursery to a toddler room. We had just moved down the street into our new home and I thought it would be the perfect time to make over his room. His room in our new house was much bigger than the first and I was excited to add a few new fun details, one of which was his new twin sized bed. We found out a few months after moving in that we were expecting our second child, so I knew it was time to transition Easton out of his crib.

I already had the style of bed in mind that I wanted, a Jenny Lind spindle bed painted in a funky green color. Land of Nod had some but I was not about to fork over $600 for a toddler bed. So off to Craigslist I went. Several weeks into my search I came across THE bed. They were asking $15 for it AND it included the box spring!! Say what?? I have never dialed a number so fast before in my life. But no one answered.

So I left a cheerful message and prayed to hear back from her. Hours went by….crickets. So I called again. Nothing. I decided the seller must be busy and I would call back the next day. So I did…. but no one answered.

Panic was beginning to set in. After a final phone call, I decided to text the seller letting them know I was giving up hope and would stop bothering them if they would simply let me know that they had already sold the bed. Still nothing.

Two days after initially contacting the seller, I got a phone call. She was a young girl and explained to me that her phone was having issues and she wasn’t getting any phone calls. When she was finally able to fix it, she had several voice mails from people wanting to purchase the bed from her, but she could tell that I “really wanted it”, so she picked me to get it! Happy would have been an understatement! All I can say is that persistency pays off, people! After picking up the bed, I was even more excited seeing that it was indeed an antique spindle bed, just hidden behind many coats of black paint. Logan [insert happy face here] sanded it down completely and then painted it green. It is my favorite thing in his room and surprisingly, he didn’t skip a beat transitioning into it.

The wall map is probably my second favorite thing in his room. I knew I wanted a large map on the wall and paired with Easton’s existing bookends, a safari theme emerged. I say “theme” lightly because I am not crazy about them but there are definite attributes around the room that would categorize it as so. One major item would be the lion bust hanging above his bed. I have a thing for animals busts (if you remember my moose Morley, that hangs above our fireplace), and knew as soon as I saw it that it would be finding a spot on Easton’s wall. I don’t think it disappoints. I only feel bad that Amelia doesn’t have an animal bust in her room.

Most of the items I carried over from Easton’s nursery like his sunburst mirror, bird mobile, and the rest of the furniture. I simply added new bedding, new curtains and a few new pictures and decor items.

Easton had a huge smile on his face when he got to see his room and sit on his new bed for the first time. He loves pointing out places on his large wall map and listening to songs on his record player. It was definitely sad to leave it behind once again, but I plan on painting his new room and decorating it exactly the same so that he doesn’t feel like he’s lost anything.
