Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
Amelia’s room is next up on our home tour. Getting to design a new little girl’s bedroom for her was extra fun since I hadn’t changed much up since her nursery (although you will still see a few old pieces scattered about!).
She unfortunately got dealt the small room in this house, but it does have two closets. My thoughts were that one closet could be for her toys so that they could be kept out of view, and the other for her clothes. When I asked her what she wanted in her new room she said flowers, princesses, Barbies, and unicorns! I started looking for sheets first since I like to design around those. I found the prettiest floral set at PB Kids and after getting her approval, decided to move in that direction. Most kids change their interests fairly quickly at this age, so I wanted to go with something that she wouldn’t want changed year after year.
Here’s the mood board I created for her room. Sometimes having to wait for base housing does have it’s benefits! Glass half full, right?
I decided on a paint color pretty quickly after we moved in and ended up not liking it – it was much too pink for my taste. (This was about the only time having a tiny bedroom was appreciated! )
I ended up choosing this dusty mauve color and was thrilled with the final results.
Her twin bed is not the bed I wanted for this space – we got it for free in San Diego from another military family that no longer needed it. It was pretty banged up from the move and I had all intentions of buying her a new one, but I had no luck finding one similar to the style I wanted on Marketplace, and I was not willing to pay full price for a brand new bed that would get damaged again in a move. I think it’s fine for now, but I’m still on the hunt for one daily!
Amelia fell in love with riding horses when we got to ride them wide open in Zion National Park. She asks for one almost daily, so I knew when I saw this vintage riding picture she’d approve.
This floral mirror was one of the items I’ve had in her room since designing her nursery. So happy that it fit perfectly in her new bedroom design!
My love of photography puts me in touch with some extremely talented artists. This floral print is one that I saw in a Facebook photography page and was thrilled to see that she sold her prints online. The print is gorgeous (choosing just one was challenging!) and I love getting to support a fellow photographer.
We were able to squeeze in a few small bookshelves thankfully and I thoroughly enjoy getting to change up the books on them for the seasons (because what parent wants to read the same book a thousand times? Am I right?!).
Jelly Cat stuffed animals will always have my heart!! That is all.
After seeing a wall lamp in her brother’s room, Amelia insisted on having one as well. It makes for a great reading light at bedtime and surprisingly hasn’t been played with after bedtime.
This antique dresser was a Marketplace find and it was just too pretty to paint. It’s the only other piece of furniture besides her bed that we could fit in her tiny bedroom.
I loved these pom pom tassel draperies that hide the ugly plastic strip curtains that base housing provides us.
Since space is limited, one of her closets serves as her toy storage. Logan installed more shelving to accommodate baskets for better organization.
And that’s it! Here’s to hoping Amelia enjoys this tiny slice of Heaven that is all her own until we move again!

Well done in such a small space. Love it!
Thank you, Susie!
