Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
One of the advantages of living on the east coast now is being able to spend more time with my mom and sister. We spent many summers when I was growing up vacationing in Ocean Isle, North Carolina and were eager to go back with Easton and Amelia. So, we decided to plan our trip around Amelia’s first birthday. Funny thing is, we thought we were booking a house in Ocean Isle, but it turns out, it was really located in Oak Island, just next to Ocean Isle. I can’t lie and say we weren’t a tad disappointed, but it’s one of those funny things that works out for the greater good. We had a blast the week we were there and I loved getting to make new memories.
The first day we arrived we unpacked, ate dinner, and headed outside to catch the sunset. I’m pretty sure we spent almost every night watching it.
Easton has never been a big fan of the ocean, but he took to it right away on this trip. We dug out the beach toys the first night we were there and he got right to work.
Not before enlisting the help of his Grandma (my mom) though. He loves my mom so much and I love seeing them play together.
The next couple of days were spent on the beach doing absolutely nothing. Aren’t those the best kind?
Well, we did do some things. We built sandcastles.
Took turns pulling Easton on the boogie board.
Even Amelia took a turn!
She had a blast before taking a dive off the board!
Our beach babe!
The best time of the day was in the evening when the sun had gone down. We loved watching the sunset while the boys played. I’ve seen Jaws however and was just fine sitting in my beach chair on dry land.
We were so happy when KiKi and Uncle Growler joined the party a few days later! I’m sad we only took cell phone pics of them. Photographer fail for sure.
The rest of the week we tried several restaurants in the area, flew kites, and took morning walks on the beach. We brought Easton’s tractor along and he had a blast driving it on the beach!
We took naps, celebrated Amelia’s birthday, and watched some of the summer Olympics!
We may have felt somewhat inspired and started a game of badminton. Amelia was the referee.
I think the sign of a true beach vacation is washing your feet off before coming in the house and still having sand in your bed!
Our house for the week!
Grandma and the birthday girl!
Our week finally came to an end, but not before one last sunset on the beach. It was so awesome having a home right on the water that we could walk down to whenever we wanted. Even though Logan isn’t necessarily a “beach person,” we all had a blast and I hope we’re able to come back again someday.
Oak Island was beautiful, the surf was calm, it wasn’t crowded, and not overdeveloped. We drove to Ocean Isle one day and were so surprised at how much it had grown. We kind of felt like Oak Island was the new Ocean Isle! So thank you mom, for a wonderful week at the beach. We had a blast! Easton is already ready to go back!

This looked like such a fun vacation! We used to vacation on the beach 2 weeks every summer and those memories are some of my favorites. I am definitely a beach girl so these are my kind of vacations. Going to check Oak Island out for the future. Thanks for the rec.
Thanks, Susie! It was such a great location because it wasn’t touristy yet. Plus the water was calm for the kids. Owen would have a blast!
