Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
A few weeks ago, Logan flew up to Newport, Rhode Island for three weeks of training. Halfway through, the kids and I decided to drive up and spend a few days with him and check out the area.
If any of you are familiar with Interstate 95 in that area, you know that it can get quite congested. And the tolls! Oh, my goodness! I knew there would be some, but I had no idea it would be over $50 just one way! Heck, it was $15 just to cross the bridge into New York!! I had to stop and get more cash. Ridiculous! So needless to say, it was a long day, but we made it.
The first thing we did the next day was hit up the beach. It was a lovely beach and the weather was amazing. If it weren’t for the mass of people and $25 parking fee, I would have given it five stars!
Amelia is getting pretty darn good at balancing all by herself. I snapped these quick photos of her testing out her balance in our beach tent.
Lunch and naps were in order after our morning at the beach. We ventured into downtown Newport that evening and walked around the wharf and did some window shopping. There were a ton of stores there, more than enough to occupy an afternoon!
The next day we scheduled a sailboat tour of the Newport harbor.
Everyone enjoyed being aboard and watching the crew rig the sails, but I’m not sure if we’d call it relaxing. Amelia refused to sit still, so Logan and I were kept very busy. Parenthood at it’s finest!
The crew was super informative (like really informative, they knew who every boat and house belonged to that we asked them about). This boat is owned by the chief architect of Microsoft! Notice the helicopter?
The kids had a great time aboard the Madeleine!
Newport wharf. Seafood restaurants galore!
I think we ate our weight in seafood while we were there. Just make sure to bring your wallet! Between the food and parking, it can get pretty pricey.
The rest of the day we drove along Bellevue Avenue and looked at the famous Newport mansions. Quite impressive. I’d love to go back and tour some of them, preferably without the kids in tow!
The last day we were there, Logan had to go back to school, so we played in the hotel pool and helped him with his laundry. We ate one last seafood dinner and then visited the beach a final time.
I’m so glad I made time to snap a few pictures of the kids there. The beaches in Newport are quite lovely with all the rocks and trees. And I’ll say it again, the weather was awesome! I totally understand why people who can afford it have a summer and winter home.
Amelia loved getting to play with the beach toys while I snapped a few pictures of Easton.
The next morning we headed home. It was yet again a long traffic filled drive, but we made it! *Lesson learned from this trip would be to have an umbrella stroller for second child when stopping to use the restroom. Holding a baby on your lap while trying to use the restroom can be challenging.
I’m glad we got the chance to visit Newport, but we know we’ll be crossing it off our list of places to retire. The beautiful summer weather just wouldn’t be enough to overrule the cost of living here and the brutal winters. Thanks for the memories, Rhode Island!
