Welcome Amelia- A Birth Story
San Diego has gotten a ton of rain this past winter and has created a blanket of wildflowers everywhere. Californians know it as the “Super Bloom”. The two most popular spots for the wildflowers are over an hour away and people have been flocking to them like crazy. They even had to shut one of them down for the weekend because people were trampling over the flowers for pictures and creating traffic pile ups. So you can imagine that I was hesitant to go with two young kids.
There are a ton of flowers close to me but most of them were on a hill or right off a freeway exit. I may have contemplated how crazy I would look running across the road with two kids in tow, but figured I’d forego the looks and possible ticket.
And so, for the past month, I’ve been craning my neck as I drive around San Diego, hoping to find a spot that would work. It just so happened that while dropping my son off at school one day, I noticed this empty lot across the street. Hellooooo flowers! I probably could have waited another week or so for more flowers to bloom, but I may have been overly excited and went the following night.
Here’s a cell phone pic I took of the spot and my very excited children. Can’t you just feel the excitement radiating off them?
I brought a basket with me and Amelia loved getting to pick the flowers and put them in her basket. Give a kid something fun to do and the shooting possibilities are endless! Plus a little pink lipstick bribe never hurt anyone! It was also nice not having to worry about negative comments from trampling some of the flowers. Some of those people were ruthless!
Well without further ado, here are a few of my favorites!
Sadly, Easton has reached the age of not wanting to be my photography muse, which is ok for now since he’s going through the awkward smile phase. Here’s to hoping both of those things pass quickly and he’ll be up for a few photos when my family comes into town in a few weeks!
